WHERE AND HOW TO START
We know it can be intimidating to walk into a church for the first time. You might not know anyone there. You don’t know what to expect. Maybe you’re not sure how to act or what’s expected of you – if anything.
This page is for you.
We hope that this information will help you feel prepared. And we’d love to hear from you if you still have questions or just want to meet with someone from The Centre before joining us on a Sunday. Our contact information is at the bottom of the page.
Our Sunday Gathering is our weekly worship service, which takes place from 4-5 pm every Sunday at the Bethel Missionary Church building (70 William St. S.). Our services are casual – come as you are.
Our gathering times consist of worshipping God through song, prayer, teaching/learning, and tithing. You are invited to participate as you are able.
Children stay in the service and are encouraged to sit with their family. We do provide some quiet activities and space for them to move around if needed. We recognize that it can be difficult for children to sit quietly for that long, but we value the opportunity for them to be part of the church and learn together as family.
Unfortunately our facility is not wheelchair accessible. There are stairs to be navigated both for the sanctuary and the washrooms.
No. Every person who comes through the door and joins us in worship is at a different place in their faith. Whatever stage of the journey we are on, we are all – together – figuring out what it means to follow Christ in our daily lives.
Yes, at this time we have a Bible study on Wednesday evenings. Please email or call us to find out the details.
We also welcome anyone to come out to our weekly music practice on Tuesday evenings, at 7 pm.
The Moms Drop-in takes place on Wednesday morning from 9:30-11am.
We are not running children’s programs through the week, but if you are looking for a children’s ministry we would be happy to tell you about what is happening at some of the other churches in town.
The Centre Community Church is part of a denomination called the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches. There are many different denominations in Canada and this can be confusing. We prefer to focus on the similarities and not worry so much about the differences. There are several things we believe in that are the same across many different Christian churches. For example, we believe in God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Trinity); we believe that God created humans “in His image”; we believe that all people are sinful – we all rebel against God and want to live our own way, and thus we are all in need of a Saviour; we believe this Saviour is Jesus Christ – that he died because of our sins and after three days he was resurrected, conquering death, and has now ascended to heaven; we believe that after Jesus ascended the Holy Spirit came to us as a gift, to be God’s presence in our lives, to be our Helper. Jesus Christ, the centre of our lives;
His Church, the centre of our community.
